Benjamin Schiff PlattĀ (born September 24, 1993)Ā is an American actor and singer. The son of film and theatre producerĀ Marc PlattĀ and philanthropistĀ Julie Platt, he began his acting career inĀ musical theatreĀ as a child. He appeared in productions ofĀ The Sound of MusicĀ (2006) andĀ The Book of MormonĀ (2012ā2015),Ā rising to prominenceĀ for originating theĀ title roleĀ in theĀ BroadwayĀ coming-of-age musicalĀ Dear Evan HansenĀ (2015ā2017). His performance in the latter earned him multiple accolades, including theĀ Tony Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a MusicalĀ (making him the youngest solo recipient of the award at the time),Ā aĀ Daytime Emmy, and aĀ Grammy Award.Ā Platt reprised the role of Evan Hansen in theĀ 2021 film adaptationĀ of the musical produced by his father.Ā He then playedĀ Leo FrankĀ in the 2022Ā New York City CenterĀ Gala production ofĀ Parade, which transferred to Broadway in 2023 and earned another Tony and Grammy nomination.
Platt's film credits include theĀ Pitch PerfectĀ film seriesĀ (2012ā2017),Ā Ricki and the FlashĀ (2015),Ā Run This TownĀ (2019), andĀ Theater CampĀ (2023), the latter of which he also co-wrote. Since 2019, he has starred in theĀ NetflixĀ comedy-drama seriesĀ The Politician, for which he was nominated for aĀ Golden Globe Award.
Platt signed withĀ Atlantic RecordsĀ in 2017 and released his debut album,Ā Sing to Me Instead,Ā in March 2019. In May 2020, the concert filmĀ Ben Platt Live from Radio City Music HallĀ debuted on Netflix. Platt's second studio album, Reverie,Ā was released on August 13, 2021.Ā After signing withĀ InterscopeĀ in 2023, Platt's third studio album, Honeymind,Ā was released on May 31, 2024.
In 2017, Platt was included on the annualĀ TimeĀ 100Ā list of the world's most influential people.
